The Negative Effects of Staying Up Late
Staying up late is a common thing in our life. Many people stay up late because of working, studying, or just watching TV. As it is known, the human body needs 8 hours for sleeping each day. After spending the days, we need to rest our body to re-energize energy. When we wake up after having less sleeping time, we may feel tired or may feel just fine, but do you know that staying up late is not good for health? Staying up late can cause health problems in human life.
First, staying up late can cause gain weight. Lack of sleep relates with increased hunger and appetite. If people have litle time to sleep they will feel hungry and need more food after waking up. Not only staying up can stimulate the appetite, but also it can cause the desire to eat a lot of high-fat and high-calories foods. A doctoral candidate at the university of Pennsylvania, Andrea. M Spaeth, MA, said in an article on womenshealthmag.com that the longer people stay awake, the more time they have to eat. Because staying up late increasing hunger in human body, that is why people often chose high-fat and high-calories food to satisfy their hunger. As it is known, high-fat and high-calories foods are the foods that have more affect in gaining weight.
Second, staying up late can cause insomnia. Sleepfoundation.org clarifies that according to guidelines from a physician group, insomnia is a difficulty to fall asleep, even when a person has the chance to do it. If people keep on staying up late every day, it can change their sleeping habit. For instance, when they want to sleep early, they will have trouble because they are already accustomed to stay up late. In addition, their body is adjusting their habits of staying up, so it takes too long time to go to their habit of going to bed in early time.
Third, staying up late can cause headache which damage the brain. Every time people stay up late, they may wake up in the morning with a feeling of panic and hast. These feeling can cause headache. If this situation occurs for many times, consequently, it will cause a minor concussion that can damage the brain. In www.passionmagz.com says that Dr. Messoud Ashina from University of Copenhagen had reseached about the relation between headache and brain. The result of his research is headache can damage the brain by changing its structures.
In conclusion, staying up late has negative effects for human health. It can cause gain weight because of increased hunger and appetite. Also it can cause insomnia by changing the sleeping habit. Then it also cause headache which damage the brain.
